From "Rust Out" page 11 Have some mustard with that sandwich? Think again. Crushed mustard seeds release a potent irritant-allyl isothiocyanate, shown in lab experiments to cause high blood pressure in animals. Humans report skin and respiratory problems, arterial blood clots and heart attacks from long-term, high-volume consumption of prepared mustard or other contact with the seeds. Some scientists even suggest that mustard can create ulcers in the walls of an artery. Keep the faith of a mustard seed. Not for internal use! —PDR Family Guide to Nutrition and Health, 1996. DID YOU KNOW? Our blood is made of millions of tiny pieces, called cells. There are RED BLOOD CELLS which carry oxygen to the cells in our body and waste from our cells. WHITE BLOOD CELLS fight germs, viruses, and cancer cells. The PLATELETS stop leaks by putting scabs on our cuts. About 100,000 cells can fit on the head of a pin. —Royce Bailey M.D., Cardiologist |
