from "Rust Out" by Dr. Royce Bailey, page 105I have advocated a hand-full of nuts every day for my patients for over 20 years. But their excuse for not eating them is, "That’s way too many calories, so I’ll just stick to the burger and fries." A handful of nuts a day pays off in fewer heart attacks. The calories in nuts can add up fast because they are so concentrated, so don’t eat more than a one ounce serving per day.
Nuts are cholesterol free. Nuts are a good source of thiamine, niacin, phosphorus, zinc, selenium, copper, magnesium, manganese, folate and vitamin E. Nuts are more than 75% fat, but the fat is mostly monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. Peanuts are from the legume family along with peas and beans. Peanuts offer some of the same benefits as nuts.
